Dan Hatfield is a television presenter, broadcaster, author and money-making expert, known for his warmth, quick wit and natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
A familiar face on British television, Dan is a regular on ITV's This Morning, where his hugely popular weekly Trash or Treasure phone-in helps viewers discover whether the forgotten items gathering dust in their homes could actually be worth a small fortune — or, occasionally, whether they really are just trash.
With genuine expertise, infectious enthusiasm and an instinctive ability to put people at ease, Dan has become a trusted voice on value, money and the ever-growing world of pre-loved. In 2025, he joined the show's core on-screen talent in celebrating its National Television Award for Best Daytime Show.
Dan also co-presents ITV1's How to Clean Up for Cash alongside Josie Gibson, helping families tackle clutter, uncover hidden value and turn unwanted possessions into much-needed money. It's proof that a good clear-out can be surprisingly rewarding — particularly if the thing you've been threatening to take to the tip for five years turns out to be worth more than your car.
Most recently, Dan created and launched Pre-Loved Prophets, a podcast co-presented with leading consumer journalist and broadcaster Alice Beer. Developed as a passion project, the show brings together their shared expertise, chemistry and curiosity to explore the fascinating world of pre-loved, helping audiences think differently about what they own, what they buy and what they might be better off selling.
Dan first became a familiar face to millions on Channel 4's Posh Pawnbrokers, appearing at the helm of more than 70 episodes, before starring in ITV's primetime series Million Pound Pawn across two series and a Marbella special.
But Dan's expertise goes well beyond television. He has more than 25 years of real-world experience in the industry and comes from a third-generation pawnbroking family in Sheffield. He is a qualified diamond grader, international dealer and specialist in antiques and luxury goods — meaning there are few things he can't put a value on, although he may occasionally question why you've kept them in the first place.
His first book, Money Maker, was published in 2024, offering practical advice on finding value in the things people already own and making the most of the booming second-hand economy.
Dan's Modern Treasures column for the Daily Mail quickly grew from bi-weekly to weekly, reflecting his growing reputation as an expert on the changing world of antiques, collectables and pre-loved goods. He is also a regular contributor across national print media and BBC Radio.
What sets Dan apart is his ability to make expertise feel accessible. He can talk diamonds, antiques and serious money one minute, then happily discuss a mysterious object found at the back of someone's shed the next. He understands that behind almost every possession is a story — and he genuinely enjoys finding out what that story is.
Whether he's uncovering hidden value, meeting extraordinary people or bringing big stories to life, Dan combines authority with warmth, humour and infectious curiosity.
And if you've got something in the loft that you think might be worth a fortune, Dan is exactly the person you want to call.
Although maybe check the loft first.
