Ross Adams is an award-winning actor, presenter, writer and voiceover artist who has spent more than a decade proving that there is apparently no job in television he can't find a way of doing.

He won legions of fans as the gloriously unpredictable Scott Drinkwell in Channel 4's Hollyoaks; a role he played from 2015 to 2024, and previously starred as Jeff Bowyer in the BBC Three sitcom The Gemma Factor. His performance earned him an RTS Television Award nomination for Best Performance in a Comedy. These days, Ross can be found playing Colin in Channel 5's hugely popular drama series The Good Ship Murder — so he's swapped the chaos of Chester for the chaos of the high seas.

Ross studied Performing Arts at the University of Salford and, since graduating, has built an impressively varied screen career, appearing in dramas and comedies including Blue Murder, Emmerdale, I'm With Stupid and Eleventh Hour, where he found himself sharing the screen with the rather legendary Patrick Stewart OBE.

But Ross's relationship with the world of soaps goes much deeper than simply appearing in front of the camera. Before becoming a familiar face on Hollyoaks, he worked behind the scenes too, starting out as an assistant to the series producer on Coronation Street, before heading to Emmerdale as a storyliner. Having written stories for more than 400 episodes, he became a Script Editor — meaning he knows an alarming amount about what can possibly go wrong in a fictional village.

In February 2015, Ross left Emmerdale to begin filming Hollyoaks, taking on the role of Scott Drinkwell and embarking on a remarkable run through some of the soap's biggest, strangest and most gripping storylines. There were laughs, tears, drama, romance and more twists than anyone could reasonably expect from one postcode.

His work as Scott earned him the British Soap Award for Best Male Dramatic Performance in 2018, proving that beneath the comedy and chaos was a seriously accomplished dramatic actor. And, because apparently acting, producing, presenting and script editing weren't enough, Ross also wrote an episode of Hollyoaks himself — episode 6204, which aired in September 2023. It's a pretty rare achievement for an existing cast member to write for the show they're starring in.

Away from the soap world, Ross turned the camera on himself for Love, Dad & Daddy, producing and directing a deeply personal documentary about his failed adoption journey and the changes needed to make the adoption process easier and more accessible for the LGBTQ+ community. The film won Best Documentary at NEIFF and is available to watch on ITVX, NOW and Apple TV+.

Ross is also no stranger to the presenting world. He has hosted Hollyoaks Favourites and Hollyoaks@25 for E4, as well as Hollyoaks In Real Life: Gay Conversion Therapy, which was nominated for a BAFTA in 2022. So, yes, he really has managed to squeeze an extraordinary number of television jobs into one career.

And then there's the voice. Ross is a highly experienced voiceover artist, lending his distinctive tones to documentaries, commercials and some rather famous brands — including Kellogg's Frosties. Which means that, somewhere out there, Ross may well be responsible for making an entire generation want to get up in the morning and eat cereal.

Away from the screen, Ross is the founder and principal of Small Screen Talent, a TV acting academy and agency for young performers, helping the next generation of actors get their start in the industry.

Actor, presenter, writer, director, producer, script editor, voiceover artist and acting mentor — Ross Adams has pretty much run out of television jobs to collect. Give him another few years and he'll probably be presenting, producing and writing the BAFTAs while simultaneously voicing the adverts in the ad breaks.
