Gloria Hunniford OBE
TV & Radio Broadcaster
Official Agent: Jo Carlton
As one of Britain's best known TV and radio personalities, Gloria Hunniford requires little introduction. From chat show and current affairs host to presenter of lifestyle and consumer programmes, Gloria is one of the few broadcasters who can genuinely claim to embrace the spectrum of popular culture. Her elusive ability to communicate with people from all walks and backgrounds has earned her a rare iconic status in the hearts and minds of the British public, making her the subject of Piers Morgan's Life Stories in 2013. However, it was with her moving account of her daughter's battle with cancer in the best-selling books Next To You and Always With You, that she sealed her reputation as one of the nation's most respected writers and commentators.
As a prolific and talented broadcaster, Gloria has long championed the role of the solo female presenter. In 1982, she became the first woman to have her own daily radio show on BBC Radio 2 which she presented for 13 years, and also was among the first female broadcasters to host her own chat show with the highly successful Sunday, Sunday. Gloria's most recent presenting credits include: Rip-Off Britain, Food: Truth Or Scare, Doorstep Crime 999 and holiday home swap series Home Away From Home for BBC1. Gloria has been a regular news reviewer for ITV's This Morning, reporter for The One Show and is a regular panellist on Loose Women for ITV. In June 2017 she celebrated 70 years of show business in a special ‘This Is Your Life’ edition of Loose Women.
Gloria's long and established career has been recognised with many prestigious awards including TV Personality of the Year and Radio Personality of the Year. Most notably, in June 2017, Gloria was awarded an OBE for services to cancer charities through breast screening services and cancer support, in the Queen's Birthday Honours. She is patron of a number of charities and dedicates much time to the causes she supports. Gloria was President of the Television and Radio Industries Club 1999-2000 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
In January 2022 Gloria showcased her singing talent, appearing as Snow Leopard in ITV's The Masked Singer. Once hailed as “Ireland's Queen of Song”, Gloria's life in music began at an early age as a child performer in her home of Northern Ireland, before moving to Canada where she had her own radio series performing Irish songs. In 1979, Gloria recorded the album A Taste of Hunni, a stunning and timeless collection of popular standards and evergreens. Digitally remastered and re-released in February 2025, A Taste of Hunni now makes its debut on CD, complemented by the inclusion of Gloria's debut single Are You Ready for Love plus a specially written foreword by Sir Cliff Richard.
In July 1953, a young Gloria came face to face with the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II along a small country road outside Lisburn. As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012, Gloria presented The Queen and Me for BBC NI, in which she set out to discover just why the Queen was there, where she went and who she met. Interweaving the memories of those who were there with remarkable vintage film, a story unfolded of a magical and intimate Royal visit to Northern Ireland unlike any other.
Gloria's long-awaited autobiography ‘My Life’ was published by John Blake Books in October 2017.
On 25th May 2024, Gloria became the first woman to be granted the freedom of the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough in recognition for her outstanding contributions to broadcasting and charitable work.
