Martel Maxwell

TV & Radio Presenter

Official Agent: Craig Latto

Martel Maxwell is a television and radio presenter, journalist, author and mum. She can be seen presenting BBC One's Homes Under The Hammer.

Martel built her own family home in the Perthshire hills, where only a cattle grid once stood. Shortlisted for a prestigious property award, along with husband Jamie they made it fully sustainable with renewable energy and also decarbonised.

She is an experienced voiceover artist, voicing BBC Scotland's Inside Central documentary repeated series, as well as many a Hammer episode and commercial and corporate projects.

Before becoming ensconced in property transformations, Martel specialised in entertainment and celebrity interviews, with a weekly slot on ITV's Lorraine for almost a decade, while also presenting short general films for BBC One's The One Show and BBC One Scotland's country show Landward and co-presenting BBC One Scotland's On The Road.

She still squeezes the odd film into her schedule for BBC One's Morning Live and Sunday Morning Live - as well as celebrity quizzes including Mastermind, The Hot List, Weakest Link and House of Games.

Martel was honoured to be asked to join the BBC's team of live commentators in Edinburgh for Her Majesty the late Queen Elizabeth II's funeral procession along the Royal Mile.

Martel has presented shows on many radio stations including BBC Radio Scotland.

Before broadcast, Martel was a national newspaper journalist and her debut novel Scandalous, published by Michael Joseph (Penguin) drew on her experiences as a showbiz reporter.

She is an immersive and investigative journalist and expert interviewer who absorbs herself in every subject matter she is asked to cover.

After training to be a lawyer at Edinburgh University Martel applied for The Sun's first graduate traineeship, beating 3,000 hopefuls for a two-year apprenticeship, which started at London's City University at its prestigious postgraduate print school, followed by training in Sydney and around the UK.

She is an official Dundee ambassador, trustee of charity Help For Kids for children in need in the city. She is a proud redhead, keen tennis player and married the first boy she kissed (it took him 20 years to ask her out) and they have three sons, two of whom landed the ginger gene.
